About Painting - Early Paintings

Vernissage 10. September 2017

Ausstellungsdauer 10. September 2017

No one from the art world has been celebrated and honoured as much this year as Gerhard Richter on his 85th birthday: first the brilliant exhibition "New Pictures" at the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, then the exhibition of the complete graphic oeuvre "The Editions" at the Folkwang Museum, Essen, and now, from 15 June, the exhibition "On Painting-Early Pictures" at the Kunstmuseum, Bonn, to name but a few.

There are certainly good reasons for this attention. Hardly anyone has summed them up better and more succinctly than Viktoria Arden:

"Arriving in West Germany in 1961, Richter quickly realises that he is henceforth a "free" artist. He was able to complete his art studies at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and meanwhile began to explore the relationship between painting and photographic sources. This pioneering achievement in post-war art opened the doors to the German art trade for Richter...... In the years to come, Richter varies his "blurred painting" through various thematic complexes..... Nevertheless, Richter does not stop painting figuratively at the beginning of the 1970s. A wild odyssey through abstraction and figuration begins and ultimately creates one of the most multi-faceted complete works of the present day."

Gerhard Richter is famous. And rightly so! His paintings are sought after. We are happy to have been able to collect some beautiful, rare and affordable works by this exceptional artist.
